Solar Thermal Water Heating Systems December 27, 2007

Solar water heaters can be a cost effective way to heat domestic hot water.  This type of system can be used in any climate and the fuel used to heat the water, sunshine, is free.  The setup is pretty simple.  A storage tank (you can re-use your existing tank type heater), solar collectors (flat plate, integral, or evacuated tube) and piping to and from the collectors to the storage tank.

Solar water heating systems typically have a backup system for cloudy days and or times of increased demand.  Your existing water heater can be supplemented or used in conjunction with your new solar water heating system.  Two types of systems can be used: Direct and Indirect circulation systems.  Direct systems circulate potable water from the tank to the collectors and are most effecting in non-freezing climates.  Indirect systems circulate a non-freezing liquid into a heat exchanger inside the storage tank.

Solar energy is a clean, renewable energy that can be used to not only heat your domestic hot water, but can also be used to heat your home.  If you feel that solar energy can be used for your home or business, contact a professional to ensure a professional design and installation.
